The Terre Haute Children’s Museum, located in the heart of downtown at 727 Wabash Ave., features 3 stories of fun, laughter and exploration for kids of all ages and kids at heart. Since opening our doors over 30 years ago, we’ve been committed to our mission of enriching children’s lives through the exploration of science and technology. We LOVE seeing families of all shapes and sizes walk through our doors ready to explore and learn.
THCM is known across the Wabash Valley and the Midwest as a hands-on museum where children are encouraged to try, fail and try again. We encourage learning by using the scientific method and truly burst with pride when we see the lightbulb go on in a child’s eyes when they finally understand a scientific concept. It’s the coolest thing ever. Our museum features dozens of exhibits that are perfect for kiddos ages 12 months old to 12 years old. We even have things the big kids will enjoy.
On the first floor of the museum, you will find Fiddling with Physics. Kinetic Balls, FIT Gym, the beloved Tree House, Lite Bright and musical instruments. As you move up the staircase towards the second floor, get ready to learn about how our food makes it from the farms to our tables. Start in Ag-Citing to see how your food is grown. Then, spend some time in the Fresh & Fit Market shopping for your food, followed by putting the groceries away in The Kitchen. Don’t forget to check out the Bubble Ring and splash around in the Water Works water table. Do you have the need for speed? You can sit in a real race car to perfect your driving skills. Before heading upstairs to the 3rd floor, be sure to play a game or learn a new dance on the Play Pad. The 3rd floor features our Under Construction exhibit and offers a bird’s-eye view of the new Terre Haute Convention Center construction site. You can race cars, play with trains, build skyscrapers with LEGOs, work in a veterinary clinic and so much more at THCM.
And, no visit to the museum is complete without testing your skills (and nerves) on the Ropes Challenge Course. After getting harnessed into the track, you will be suspended 10 to 20 feet in the air as you conquer the 22 different elements and a ZIP LINE!!!! Are you kidding me??? It’s super cool! You have to check it out.
The Terre Haute Children’s Museum offers so many unique and fun experiences for the children we serve. It’s a wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon when looking for something fun to do. If you love it as much as we do, you can always buy an annual membership for your family. Not only will you receive free admission to our museum and discounts here, but our museum is also part of the ASTC Passport program, giving our members access to more than 300 other museums across the nation. If you travel, this membership will easily pay for itself. Check it out.
We love the museum and we think you will, too. If it’s been awhile since you’ve been here for a visit, we look forward to seeing you soon.
