Foam Fun Downtown

I’m confused, what is that bright thing up in the sky? It’s shining a light all over and making people smile, come out of their homes and flock to Deming Park. Ohhh, yes, that’s the sun. I almost forgot what it felt like to have sunshine and warm weather in Terre Haute. After what’s been a long and depressing winter, we at the Chamber are so excited to look out our windows on Wabash Ave to see people walking the streets of downtown, generally happy to be outside.

Not only is the impending summer weather making us all a little happier, it also makes our job at the Chamber a little easier and more fun with lots of events on the horizon.

Downtown First Friday is obviously better with nice weather. As much fun as the winter months can be feeling the holiday spirit, nothing is fun about the dreary, rainy weather we experienced at the beginning of April. So if you missed “Spring into Downtown”, we don’t blame you, but we hope you’ll give First Friday another chance.

Mark your calendar for June 1, “Get Fit Downtown”. Sponsored by The Dance Studio we have plans for all the traditional First Friday fun and an exciting addition. Title Sponsor Union Hospital with Supporting Sponsor Pepsi Refreshment Services, Wellness Box Inc., Comfort Keepers and the Chamber will host a one-mile Foam Run/Walk. Similar to the former “Glow Walk” the Chamber hosted in year’s past, we’re bringing another unique take on being active in the community. Plus, the flat downtown course will offer runners the chance to speed through or families and friends a fun way to make their way through the downtown streets.

“We have been working this year to bring more people downtown to see the value in what we have here and First Friday has been a great resource,” says Downtown Terre Haute Coordinator Stephanie Pence. “June’s events are undoubtedly going to be fun, unique and a wonderful way to experience downtown like you never have before.”

Registration for adults is $20 and $15 for kids and is now open at our website terrehautechamber.com.

Katie Shane is the Director of Member Engagement for the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce.
