Markle Mill Park consists of 8 acres. Markle Mill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Only the dam and remnants of the 1816 Markle grist-sawmill foundation remain. According to history buffs, the mill was the longest operating gristmill east of the Mississippi River. The park has basically been left in its natural state. The waterfall over the dam, the sound of the flowing water, and other aesthetic qualities of the park attract fishermen and history buffs. The Collett Park Pathway is a nice 1.6 mile extension of the Heritage Trail. This multi-use paved trail heads north on 5th Street from the Indiana State University campus, through residential areas, traveling past the Union Hospital Health Complex and ending at beautiful Collett Park. This trail has also been extended around the lake at Maple Avenue Park.
DOBBS TRAIL

A unique trail in the Terre Haute parks system is the Indiana Veterans Memorial Mile. This trail is a one mile interpretive loop trail in the shape of the state of Indiana. This trail surrounds the Indiana State Memorial Football Stadium at the corner of Brown Avenue and Wabash Avenue.

6th Street Boulevard is a wide boulevard that extends one and a half blocks between Margaret Avenue and Helen Avenue. The boulevard is tree-lined and has the potential to someday be transformed into a block park.
With the opening of the brand new restroom facilities at the Twigg Rest Area, Twigg's is now one of the premier trailheads in the state. The location off of US 40 just east of the Rose-Hulman Campus is convenient to all. Plenty of parking is available as well as a vending machine. From this rest area, you're ready to hit the Heritage Trail!
